Elgon regional police spokesperson Rogers Taitika said one suspect, identified as Shadia Nambozo, has been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to locate others believed to have been involved.
He said the group is accused of attacking Zura Tugonza, a businesswoman, during the altercation. The victim sustained serious injuries to her chest and was taken to a nearby clinic for treatment.
Police say the motive behind the incident has not yet been established, with investigators reviewing CCTV footage and recording witness statements.
Mr Taitika also raised concerns about possible security lapses, questioning how a weapon may have been brought onto the premises and why the incident was not immediately reported to authorities. Bar management has been asked to provide an explanation.
However, the bar’s manager disputed claims that the stabbing happened inside the venue. He said the victim was injured outside, along the road, and rejected suggestions that security at the bar had been compromised.
Police say investigations are continuing as they work to identify and arrest the remaining suspects.
