Court Hears Ggaba Child Killing Suspect Believed in Human Sacrifice for Wealth

A man accused of killing four young children at a daycare centre in a Kampala suburb believed the attack would bring him wealth through human sacrifice, a court has heard.

Christopher Okello Onyum has been charged with four counts of murder and committed to the High Court for trial.

Prosecutors allege that the 34-year-old carefully planned the attack at a childcare facility in Ggaba.

According to the indictment, he rented a vehicle on 31 March 2026 to facilitate his movements, before visiting the centre the following day while posing as a parent seeking admission for a child.

Court documents say he spoke to a caretaker, who explained the enrolment process, in what investigators believe was a reconnaissance visit.

The prosecution further told the court that the accused purchased knives several days before the incident.

On the day of the attack, he reportedly returned to the centre, paid a fee via mobile money, and then launched the assault on children who were playing.

When a staff member attempted to intervene, he allegedly threatened her before continuing the attack, the court heard.

Medical evidence presented to the court indicates that a psychiatric assessment conducted prior to the incident found the accused to be mentally fit.

However, the report also noted that he held beliefs about acquiring wealth through human sacrifice and allegedly viewed the killings as a means of enrichment.

Prosecutors say this and other evidence will form part of their case as the trial proceeds.
