National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, claimed on Thursday, May 15, that one of his bodyguards, Noah Mutwe, had been violently abducted by unknown individuals and taken to an undisclosed location—further adding to the growing number of his aides and supporters allegedly targeted by state security agents.
The opposition politician, who recently announced plans to challenge President Yoweri Museveni, 80, in the 2026 elections, said Mutwe was seized in Gombe, Wakiso District, by men traveling in an unmarked double-cabin vehicle.
“They came like criminals. They first detained Noah Mutwe’s uncle, handcuffed him, and forced him to lead them to Mutwe’s residence. From there, they violently abducted Mutwe and took him away. His whereabouts are still unknown. These crimes are being committed to scare us and the wider public, but they only strengthen our resolve to fight for a better Uganda,” Kyagulanyi posted on X (formerly Twitter).
This alleged abduction comes shortly after the reported detention of Kyagulanyi’s chief bodyguard, Edward Ssebufu (also known as Eddie Mutwe), who was reportedly held by military personnel for over a week before being brought to court in Masaka City—appearing visibly injured.
The whereabouts of Ssebufu were unknown for days until Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son of President Museveni and Chief of Defence Forces, claimed via social media that he was detaining Ssebufu in his basement and torturing him.

Kyagulanyi’s statement followed shortly after Gen. Muhoozi threatened to arrest him, stating on X, “We arrested KB (Dr Kizza Besigye), then Eddie Mutwe, and now I promise you Kabobi (Bobi Wine). Do you still think I’m joking? I haven’t even started!”
Dr. Besigye, a long-time opposition figure, remains on remand at Luzira Prison on treason charges following his controversial arrest in Nairobi, Kenya, in late 2024, alongside his aide, Hajj Obeid Lutale.
Ssebufu is also currently being held in Masaka Main Prison on aggravated robbery charges. His arrest in Mukono District on April 27 added to the list of Kyagulanyi’s aides currently in detention, including Achilleo Kivumbi, Gadafi Mugumya, and Grace Wakabi, also known as Smart—all facing charges in various courts, including the General Court Martial, which was previously criticized by Uganda’s Supreme Court.
Last year, another member of Bobi Wine’s security team, Anthony Agaba (aka Bobi Young), was arrested and remains incarcerated following charges by the same military tribunal.
In a series of inflammatory social media posts on Thursday, Gen Muhoozi expressed pride over Ssebufu’s alleged beating, saying, “I’m very proud that our great army beat Eddie Mutwe to a pulp. And we will beat many more.” He also warned, “If ANYBODY in NUP even dreams of starting a riot in Kampala, I promise to KILL him or her. That’s a promise!”
Gen Muhoozi also launched verbal attacks on retired Major-General Mugisha Muntu, a former army commander, who had recently urged President Museveni to rein in his son’s conduct. In response, Muhoozi called Muntu a “coward” and challenged him to a duel, further escalating the political tension.
