Kenya’s The Standard Retracts Story on Gen Muhoozi

Kenyan newspaper The Standard has softened its stance on Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, after facing backlash over an article labeling him a “Four-Star Brat.”

Despite the newspaper’s revised portrayal of Muhoozi in a more positive light, his supporters insist their planned protest at the Kenyan High Commission in Kampala will proceed as scheduled.

Following threats of demonstrations by Muhoozi’s loyalists, The Standard published a new profile on March 4, highlighting the general’s military credentials, leadership qualities, and disciplined reputation.

Daudi Kabanda, Kassambya County MP and Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), confirmed that the newspaper had issued an apology but said supporters were still reviewing it.

“We are still analyzing this apology and will respond later. Our peaceful demonstration scheduled for tomorrow remains unchanged,” Kabanda stated.

The controversy erupted last week after The Standard’s front-page story angered Muhoozi’s supporters, leading to demands for an apology. PLU members vowed to march to the Kenyan High Commission, accusing the publication of disrespecting Uganda’s top military officer.

Although The Standard’s revised stance signals an attempt to ease tensions, it remains uncertain whether this will satisfy Muhoozi’s supporters, who remain vocal in defending his public image.
