Armed Thugs Attack Former Priest and Wife, Flee with Stolen Car

In a show of force, whose cause is unknown, seven masked thugs, armed with machetes, an axe, and metal tools, broke into the home of a retired reverend and assaulted him and his wife before stealing the family car and other valuables.

Mr. Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, confirmed the events, saying, “The assailants forced their way in, attacked the occupants, and stole various items, including mobile phones, a flat-screen TV, household electronics, and cash.”

“They also took the Reverend’s vehicle, a black Toyota, which was later linked to another robbery. The incident occurred in the early hours of [last] Friday morning at the home of Rev Samuel Kyakulagira in Wabitemebe Cell, Gombe Division, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District.”

The show came shortly after, at around 3:30am, the same gang reportedly raided two homes in Ssanga Ward, belonging to a police officer and a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer.
Money and three mobile phones from the police officer, who is attached to Oyam District. At the UPDF officer’s residence, they took a laptop belonging to the army and two mobile phones.

“Witnesses stated that the assailants fled in a black vehicle, suspected to be the one stolen in the first robbery,” he added.

Police turned to the public, urging them to provide information that could aid in capturing the culprits, highlighting growing concerns over organised crime.

“We encourage residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement. Anyone with relevant information should contact the nearest police station or call our emergency lines,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.

It should be recalled that last month a thief broke into the car of Division Commander Hassan Mugerwa and stole his phone.

In retaliation, security officers in Kakiri Police Division arrested more than 20 youths found in possession of marijuana and machetes.

Before the arrests, gangs had been terrorising villages in Kakiri, including Kikubampanga, Bukalango, and Kikajjo, almost unhinged, frequently breaking into homes to steal flat-screen TVs.
