“WANTED” singer Alien Skin performs at Museveni rally

Ugandan musician Patrick Mulwana, better known by his stage name Alien Skin, has appeared at a campaign event for President Yoweri Museveni, despite being wanted by police over an alleged murder.

Alien Skin and three of his associates – Commander Mdogo, Ibrahim Mukiibi (also known as Ibra Kabadiya), and Isma Mijagulo – are accused of involvement in the death of Wilfred Namuwaya, a former member of their Fangone Forest music group.

Police say Namuwaya was assaulted on 22 September in Kizungu Zone, Makindye Division, after leaving the group without permission. He was later found severely injured, taken to Mulago Hospital by a passer-by, and died from his injuries.

Despite the allegations, Alien Skin was seen performing at Kololo during the nomination ceremony for Mr Museveni as the ruling National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) presidential candidate. Security officers at the venue did not arrest him, and he was even cleared to entertain guests, including the president.

The singer surprised many by announcing from the stage that he had joined the NRM, saying, “I am tired of hiding. I am now a member of the NRM.” His performance was later disrupted by clashes between rival groups in the crowd.

Earlier, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango had confirmed that Alien Skin and his associates were wanted in connection with the case.

President Museveni, in his remarks at the same event, acknowledged that crime remained a challenge in Uganda, blaming it on impunity, and urged NRM leaders to ensure police carried out their duties effectively.

Alien Skin, who has faced previous charges of assault and theft, remains under investigation. He was released on bail last year after being accused of attacking hospital staff and stealing a phone.
