According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the robbery occurred on 6 May after the manager of Riverside Forex Bureau and a colleague travelled from Bunga Trading Centre carrying $13,000 for currency exchange.

“After successfully exchanging the money at a forex bureau along Kampala Road, the two were reportedly intercepted by motorcycle-riding assailants in Nsambya and robbed of Shs45,184,600,” Owoyesigyire said.

Investigators later traced and recovered a motorcycle bearing registration number UMA 655GK. Police allege the number plate had been altered to conceal the identity of the motorcycle used during the robbery.

Further investigations led detectives to the two suspects and the recovery of another motorcycle, registration number UMA 602KK, which is believed to have been used in the attack.

“The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to establish their specific roles in the robbery and to identify and apprehend other accomplices,” Owoyesigyire said.

He added that security agencies were determined to track down all those linked to the robbery and ensure they are brought before the courts.

Police said investigations remain ongoing.
