There were tense scenes at the Electoral Commission (EC) nomination centre in Lweza on Wednesday after police barred a visually impaired presidential aspirant from entering the premises.
Matthew Mutyaba, who had earlier expressed interest in contesting in the 2026 presidential race, said he had collected nomination papers and wanted clarification from the EC on why his name was missing from the official schedule.

“I picked the forms and fulfilled the requirements. I want answers,” he told reporters as security officers stopped him at the gate.
According to the EC, more than 36 people collected nomination forms, but only six candidates were cleared to run. Mutyaba, holding a large file of documents, insisted he had been approved but was unable to present the clearance certificate required for entry.
He was not the only one left disappointed. Outgoing Kampala MP Muhammad Nsereko was among several other aspirants reported to have challenged their exclusion. The EC has yet to publicly explain why a number of hopefuls, including Mutyaba, did not make the final list.
