A group of supporters of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the first son of President Museveni, held a protest on Friday outside the German Embassy in Kololo, accusing Ambassador Matthias Schauer of engaging in “subversive actions.”
Wearing T-shirts bearing the image of Muhoozi and the logo of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), the demonstrators—led by PLU’s director of mobilization, Michael Mawanda—marched from the organization’s Naguru offices to the embassy on Philip Drive.
They carried placards with slogans like “The colonial era is over” and “Ambassador must leave,” accusing the German diplomat of collaborating with unnamed adversaries to destabilize Uganda and undermine its sovereignty. Though heavily guarded by police and with some roads in Kololo temporarily closed, the protest concluded without incident.

Protesters were unable to meet with embassy staff, as the premises were reportedly closed. Speaking to the crowd, Mawanda emphasized that they would not force their way in, acknowledging that violating diplomatic space would breach international protocol.
“We’ve been told the embassy is closed, and under international law, forcing entry would be considered an act of aggression. We are here to demonstrate peacefully,” Mawanda stated.
He added that they had submitted a petition to be delivered to the embassy officials.
“We came in response to our chairman’s call. Anyone who threatens Uganda’s security also targets him, and we will not tolerate such actions,” Mawanda said, referencing General Muhoozi.
He also criticized the embassy staff for evading accountability.
“They are hiding from us because they know they are in the wrong. Otherwise, they would have faced us and addressed our concerns,” he claimed.
The protest follows earlier remarks from Col Chris Magezi, former acting director of defence public information, who said Ugandan intelligence had flagged Ambassador Schauer’s conduct as undiplomatic and in violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
