Fear swept through Nagulu Kiwalimu Zone in Nakawa Division after a violent night attack by a gang of armed youths left one person dead, three others seriously injured, and homes vandalized.
The incident unfolded around 1 a.m. on Saturday when nine unidentified attackers armed with machetes, hammers, and metal rods stormed the neighborhood, breaking into houses, assaulting residents, and destroying property, including electronics and appliances.

Residents eventually managed to overpower the group, killing one suspect in mob justice. The remaining eight were rescued by police—four are now in custody at Kira Road Police Station, while the other four, who sustained severe injuries, are under guard at Mulago National Referral Hospital.
Kampala Metropolitan East Police Commander Jonathan Musinguzi confirmed the arrests and said investigations are ongoing. He urged the community to avoid mob justice and let the legal process take its course.
Local Council Chairperson Ahmed Matovu suggested the violence may be linked to a longstanding land dispute between the Musiahu-Din Muslim Community and ISBAT University, which remains unresolved in court. A hearing had been scheduled for June 30, but tensions appear to have escalated before then.
While police haven’t officially linked the attack to the land conflict, Musinguzi emphasized that such matters must be settled through legal channels.
Security has since been reinforced in the area to prevent further incidents. Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi and Nakawa Mayor Paul Mugambe visited victims, denounced the violence, and pledged support.
“This was a shocking and unacceptable act,” Ssenyonyi said. “We must promote peace and uphold the rule of law.”
Residents remain fearful and are calling for sustained security measures to prevent future violence.
