In addition to his business ventures, Garuga was widely recognised for his commitment to philanthropy. He played a key role in supporting education, healthcare, and youth development initiatives in rural communities. His contributions included founding education-focused organisations in Kanungu and sponsoring scholarship programmes for disadvantaged students.
Garuga also made his mark in Uganda’s political scene. He was an early supporter of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and championed the cause of multiparty democracy in Uganda’s early 2000s political transition. Although he later took a step back from frontline politics, he continued to be regarded as an influential voice within opposition circles.
Tributes have begun pouring in from across the country, remembering him as a dedicated businessman, community leader, and advocate for social justice.
