Dr. Twaha Kagabo, who recently transitioned from opposition politics, has accepted defeat in the Bukoto South NRM primaries and pledged support for the party’s chosen candidate, Hajj Muyanja Mbabaali.

According to the final vote count, Mbabaali won with 4,965 votes (61.78%), while Kagabo followed with 2,501 (31%). Other contenders, Muteesasira Gonzago and Matovu Rogers, finished with 534 (6%) and 37 votes (0.4%) respectively.

After the results were announced, Kagabo—formerly a member of the National Unity Platform and more recently the Patriotic League of Uganda—offered his congratulations and declared his full commitment to the NRM. He ruled out running as an independent or backing any non-NRM candidate.

Beyond congratulating the winner, he called for party unity, encouraging his supporters and fellow aspirants to consolidate behind Mbabaali to maintain the NRM’s influence in the region. He also reaffirmed loyalty to President Museveni and pledged to campaign for his re-election in 2026.

While accepting the outcome, Kagabo voiced concern over reported incidents of violence and voter intimidation during the primaries, urging the NRM to uphold discipline and democratic values.

Kagabo’s political shift—from a vocal NUP member to joining PLU, and now aligning fully with NRM—reflects a broader trend of realignments within Uganda’s political landscape. His latest move highlights a deepening loyalty to the ruling party and its leadership.

As the NRM prepares for the 2026 general elections, attention is now focused on how it will rally support across Bukoto South and the broader Lwengo region. Mbabaali, now the party’s flag bearer, is expected to face strong opposition in what could be a tightly contested race.
