Rwashande Wins NRM Primaries in Lwemiyaga

Retired Brigadier General Emmanuel Rwashande has emerged victorious in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries for the Lwemiyaga County parliamentary seat, garnering 54.3% of the vote—16,358 ballots in his favor. He beat four competitors, notably incumbent MP Theodore Ssekikubo, who secured 28.92%, and other contenders including Joy Kafula Kabatsi, Edmond Bwiire, and Jacob Kato.

Shortly after his win, Rwashande extended an invitation for unity, urging his rivals and supporters to collaborate in advancing development across the constituency. He emphasized that his triumph should not be viewed as a personal achievement but as a turning point for collective progress.

He promised to prioritize community-centered projects such as building new schools, health centers, and clean water systems and improving road networks—initiatives he plans to launch in his first year if elected in the 2026 general elections.

Beyond constituency development, Rwashande also expressed his intention to revitalize the NRM’s presence in Lwemiyaga. He criticized internal party sabotage and pledged loyalty to President Museveni, warning that disloyalty to the president would equate to disloyalty to his own campaign.

Commending security agencies for ensuring peaceful voting, Rwashande now looks ahead to the 2026 general election, where he will represent NRM against contenders from other political parties.

Overall, the outcome of the Lwemiyaga NRM primaries illustrates a broader shift in local political dynamics, reflecting both the challenges of internal party cohesion and the growing emphasis on development-focused leadership.
