On Thursday, she joined UPC leaders in Kole District to campaign for the party’s president, Jimmy Akena. Aceng stated that her return is aimed at reviving the party’s presence and reclaiming her former parliamentary seat. She refuted claims of having joined the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), despite serving in President Museveni’s government for seven years, stating that her ambassadorial role was a matter of national service and did not reflect a change in political allegiance. She emphasized that her work in Canada was in defense of Uganda’s interests.
Aceng will compete in the UPC primaries against former Lira Woman MP Joy Atim Ongom and Janet Auma Okullo, who was unsuccessful in the last election.
Meanwhile, UPC President Jimmy Akena pledged to support the eventual party flagbearer, promising that the primaries would be transparent and fair. Akena urged party leaders to prioritize public service over personal gain and reiterated his commitment to run for president in 2026, expressing confidence that change is imminent.
