Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South regional police spokesperson, confirmed that most of the injured are currently in stable condition.

“We have visited the victims at the hospital, and I can confirm that the majority are no longer in critical condition and are responding well to treatment,” Mugwe said.

The accident took place at around 9:40 a.m. and involved a yellow Isuzu bus bearing the Kenyan registration number KCQ 057Q. The bus was being driven by 58-year-old Charles Ndirangu, a Kenyan national.

Preliminary reports indicate that the bus overturned while navigating a blind bend, as the driver tried to avoid an oncoming truck attempting to overtake from the opposite direction. In a split-second decision to avoid a head-on crash, the driver swerved sharply to the left, which caused the bus to flip over.

“Initial investigations show the driver made an abrupt move to avoid a collision, which unfortunately led to the bus overturning,” Mugwe added.

Police investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances behind the crash. Authorities are working to identify the unknown truck involved and are looking into possible contributing factors such as excessive speed or mechanical failure.

The police have since urged all motorists to drive with heightened caution, particularly when approaching blind spots and sharp curves, to prevent future tragedies.
