According to Elgon Region police spokesperson Rogers Taitika, the girl had been missing from her home for about a week. When she eventually returned, she reportedly disclosed that she had been staying with Epeet during her disappearance.
Taitika said that when the family approached Epeet’s residence, he initially refused to open the door, prompting them to alert the police.
Epeet was subsequently taken into custody and is currently being held at Sironko Central Police Station as investigations continue. He is likely to be charged with aggravated defilement, a serious criminal offense under Ugandan law.
