Police in Nabweru, Uganda, have arrested a 23-year-old woman, Rashida Kasirye, after a young boy was found with severe burn injuries at a residence in the area. The case is being handled under file number 26/30/07/2025.
Kasirye is alleged to have taken three-year-old Hamdan Rayhan from Mpigi, where she had reportedly gone to visit her sister. She then brought the child to Nabweru, where he was later discovered with serious burn wounds and rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment.

The child was found by local residents lying at the doorway of a rented home, with extensive burns and peeling skin. Community members quickly alerted local authorities, including area councillor Nakabugo Nabira, who helped coordinate his rescue.
“I was at home when I received the call,” said Ms Nabira. “Everyone was afraid to touch the child because of how badly he was burned. We found him lying at the doorway, his skin peeling. We took him to a nearby clinic, but due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to Mulago Hospital.”
Ms Nabira added that the child had been left in a home believed to belong to the suspect’s sister. “When we entered the house, the bed was soaked. We suspect hot water was used, possibly boiled in a kettle and poured on the child,” she said.
According to Nabira, the child told her directly, “They poured hot water on me,” and asked her to buy him milk.
The child’s mother, Fahima Nabachwa, said Kasirye had initially come to visit their family but left with the child without returning. “At first we thought she had gone somewhere nearby. But then she called asking for money,” Ms Nabachwa explained.
Suspecting something was wrong, Nabachwa’s mother gave Kasirye transport money to return the child. “When she reached Nabweru, she was informed that the child had been badly burned and was taken to hospital,” Ms Nabachwa added.
Police say they suspect Kasirye may have taken the child with the intention of extorting money from the family. She is currently in custody and is expected to face charges of attempted murder.
