The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has announced that several parts of Kampala, Wakiso, and Mpigi districts will experience a day-long power blackout on Friday, 8 August 2025, to allow for critical maintenance at the Mutundwe Substation.

The shutdown, scheduled between 08:00 and 17:00 local time, will affect more than 70 locations, including key facilities and busy areas such as Mengo Hospital, Namirembe Cathedral, Ndejje University, Nateete, Kyengera, Buddo, Mpigi, Buloba, and Buyala.
UEDCL’s Head of Corporate and Stakeholder Affairs, Jonan Kiiza, said the works are essential to maintain reliable and efficient power supply.
“This planned shutdown will enable our technical team to carry out essential maintenance at the Mutundwe Substation,” he said in a public statement. “We regret any inconvenience caused and appreciate the public’s patience.”
Residents and business owners in the affected areas have been advised to make the necessary preparations ahead of the scheduled outage.
