Authorities in central Uganda have launched an intensive search for a six-year-old girl who went missing last week in Bombo Town, Luwero District.

Babirye, a pupil at Namaliga Church of Uganda Primary School, was last seen around 7:00pm in Namaliga South, according to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sam Twiineamazima, spokesperson for the Savannah Region.

“Nakato had been asked by their mother to take a shoe for repair in Bombo Town. Babirye followed her but never returned home,” ASP Twiineamazima told reporters on Sunday.

Police responded swiftly after the case was reported, initiating investigations and searching the area where the girl was last seen.

“We have recorded statements from witnesses and carried out a thorough examination of the scene,” the police spokesperson said.

Authorities are now appealing to the public to assist in the ongoing efforts to find the missing girl.

“We urge anyone with relevant information to report to the nearest police station. Community involvement is vital in helping us locate Babirye Nankya,” ASP Twiineamazima added.

As the search enters its fifth day, concern continues to grow among the child’s family and local residents.
