According to James Mubi, the Kiira Region Police spokesperson, one of the ten escapees has been rearrested following a swift law enforcement operation launched immediately after the breakout. The recaptured suspect, along with those still at large, now faces additional charges of escaping from lawful custody.

Mubi stated that security protocols at Jinja Central CPS are undergoing a comprehensive review to prevent similar incidents in the future. He further emphasized that any police personnel found responsible for compromising the criminal justice process would face strict disciplinary action.

The Regional Police Commander (RPC), Charles Nsaba, stressed the importance of effective command, control, and administration at all police facilities, warning officers against negligence.

This is not the first incident of its kind at Jinja CPS. In December 2021, 17 suspected hardcore criminals managed to escape from the same facility, raising serious concerns about security lapses at the station.

The recent escape has intensified scrutiny on police leadership regarding the effectiveness of detention protocols. Authorities are urging the public to provide any information that could lead to the recapture of the remaining suspects.

The police assure the public that stringent measures are being put in place to enhance security and prevent future breaches.
