“TikTok Should be Banned” – Mubajje

Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has called on the government to regulate TikTok, expressing concerns over its misuse for promoting idleness and spreading harmful content.

He made these remarks as Ugandan Muslims joined believers around the world in celebrating Eid El-Fitr, marking the conclusion of the Holy Month of Ramadhan.

Addressing thousands of worshippers gathered at the National Mosque in Old Kampala, Mufti Mubaje cautioned against TikTok’s role in encouraging immorality and division.

“Authorities must take action against those misusing TikTok, just as they did with Facebook, before it becomes unmanageable,” he said.

The Mufti praised Muslims for their humility, patience, and dedication in observing the fast as commanded by Allah and taught by Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

“We pray that Almighty Allah grants joy and blessings to all who fasted on the Day of Resurrection,” he added.

Mubaje also condemned the ongoing mass killings of Palestinians in Gaza, urging global leaders to prioritize dialogue and peaceful solutions to conflicts.

He reminded Ugandan Muslims that the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) belongs to all Muslims, calling for unity, reconciliation, and support for its programs while warning against internal disputes that could weaken the organization.

Deputy Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa echoed concerns about the plight of Palestinians.

Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi highlighted the UMSC’s recent achievements, including hosting national events attended by President Museveni and Vice President Jessica Alupo, participating in international conferences, launching income-generating initiatives in ten Muslim regions, improving education and healthcare, strengthening governance, and expanding UMSC properties across the country.
