A seasoned journalist with CBS radio, owned by the Buganda Kingdom, has died under sudden and tragic circumstances, prompting a wave of grief across the media fraternity and wider community.
Jimmy Ssekabitto, 42, was found unconscious early Friday near the Uganda Red Cross offices in Kampala and later pronounced dead at Lubaga Hospital. He had traveled overnight from Masaka to attend a friend’s wedding Mass at Rubaga Cathedral.

Initial police reports suggest he may have fallen from a boda boda, although a postmortem later confirmed he died of high blood pressure. Authorities have launched a formal inquiry into the events leading to his death.
Ssekabitto was a respected journalist based in Sembabule District, known for his in-depth coverage of local governance and community affairs. Leaders from the Greater Masaka region praised his work, describing him as a dedicated professional who used journalism to advance development and accountability.
The Kabaka’s chief in Buddu County, Jude Muleke, and other local officials hailed Ssekabitto’s legacy in promoting responsible media and giving voice to the people. His death has been described as a significant loss for Buganda and Uganda’s journalism community.
A Requiem Mass was held at his home in Gayaza, Masaka, with burial arrangements set for Sunday in his ancestral village of Bukoto–Kabonera.
