Nyendo Woman Electrocuted by Clothesline

In unending incidents of infrastructure negligence, 21-year-old woman, Zaituni Nakaliiri, lost her life in a tragic manner in Mukudde Village, Nyendo-Ssenyange Ward, Masaka City.

It is reported that while hanging clothes at her home, she was electrocuted after one of the clothes came into contact with a naked electric wire.

“She was hanging clothes near an electric line, and one of them touched a wire,” an eyewitness reiterated.

“This is a result of illegal electricity connections,” said Willy Jjemba, a local resident, emphasizing.

“Authorities, including UMEME, must take responsibility for failing to inspect and prevent electricity theft,” he added on.

Mukudde Village Chairperson Godfrey Nduggwa reminded reporters that this was not the first incident tied to illegal connections. He retrieved such a case in April during the grasshopper season, where life was lost, saying, “We need urgent action. Illegal power connections have become a recurring problem in our area.”

The Masaka police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, called upon landlords to adhere to proper electricity installation procedures.

Kasirye said, “Illegal connections are widespread here. UMEME must enhance inspections and enforce safety standards to prevent such tragedies.”

Nakalinzi’s body was then taken to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
