NANSANA: Woman Arrested for Burning Husband Alive After Domestic Dispute

Police in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, have arrested a woman accused of killing her husband by setting him ablaze.

The suspect, identified as Nanziri, allegedly restrained her ailing husband, 75-year-old James Wani, placed him in a sack, and burned him using petrol and old tires in a garbage pit on Sunday night.

Following the incident, Nanziri reportedly misled neighbors by claiming Wani had been admitted to Mulago National Referral Hospital’s intensive care unit due to a worsening health condition.

Concern grew among residents when Wani remained unseen for several days. Neighbor and family friend Muhhad Ssemakula said the household had a history of domestic disputes.

The truth came to light when Wani’s 10-year-old daughter confided in Ssemakula, revealing that her mother had killed and burned her father.

“She said her mother tied up her father, put him in a sack, and burned him in the night,” Ssemakula recalled.

Kijambo Ali Mubiru, the defense secretary of Zone 80 in Nabweru, confirmed that Wani had earlier reported domestic abuse and was planning to leave Nanziri and return to his ancestral home in Mbale District.

The local community expressed shock at the gruesome act and the increasing trend of domestic violence turning deadly. Nanziri is currently detained at Katoke Police Station as investigations continue.
