A prominent moneylender in Seeta Bajjo, Mukono Municipality, has been fatally stabbed by a client reportedly indebted to her for Shs 18 million.
The victim, 35-year-old Hamida Mutesi Nalule, was allegedly murdered by 26-year-old Elvis Katabaazi, who had borrowed the money from her last year. According to Racheal Namwanje, a close friend of Nalule, the suspect had been evading repayment for months, prompting her to consider involving law enforcement.

On Wednesday, Katabaazi reportedly lured Nalule to Nabuti Village under the guise of settling the debt through the local LC I chairperson. He claimed he was ready to transfer ownership of his house as a form of repayment.
“I know Katabaazi personally and witnessed when he borrowed the Shs 18 million. He called her, saying he was ready to sign over his house in the presence of the chairperson,” Namwanje recounted.
Unaware of his true intentions, Nalule drove Katabaazi to Nabuti in her Toyota Fielder, registration UBR 959B. When they arrived, the chairperson was not home, and Katabaazi convinced her to wait.
Around 5 p.m., he proposed they try another location where the chairperson might be. As they took a detour along Nyenje Road, Katabaazi allegedly turned on Nalule, stabbing her several times in the chest and neck with a machete.
Eyewitnesses say Nalule managed to exit the vehicle and cry for help before collapsing and dying a short distance from the car. Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, confirmed Katabaazi’s arrest.
“The suspect used a machete to kill Nalule. The weapon has been recovered, and Katabaazi is in custody on murder charges,” Owoyesigyire said. “We commend the residents who apprehended him as he attempted to flee. He will be prosecuted after investigations are complete.”
Nalule’s death has stunned the Seeta community, where she was widely known in lending circles. Police have gathered witness statements and are continuing to collect forensic evidence to support the case.
