A six-day search for 25-year-old Jackline Nyawedde, who vanished on April 27, ended in horror when her decapitated body was discovered in Namawojjolo East, Mukono District.
Police say Nyawedde’s ex-boyfriend, Abdu Muyagu, confessed to the killing, which is believed to have been a ritual murder. Muyagu allegedly lured her with false intentions of reconciliation but instead plotted her death out of revenge over their failed relationship.

Investigators traced her final phone signal, revealing communication with Muyagu before it was switched off. He was later arrested alongside a traditional healer, James Bakabulindi, and another accomplice, Mubarak Kizito.
Under questioning, Muyagu reportedly confessed, saying:
“We killed her. I did it with these people and others who aren’t here. Her head and phone are at my house.”
Police then recovered Nyawedde’s phone and a human head wrapped in cloth from his residence. The suspects later led officers to a garden where her headless body had been buried.
The remains were taken to Mulago Hospital for a postmortem. Preliminary findings suggest the murder was ritualistic, possibly fueled by jealousy after Nyawedde moved on with one of Muyagu’s friends.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that 17 individuals have now been detained in relation to the case, all facing murder charges.
“The murder occurred in Lugala village, Kasawo sub-county. Our investigation continues, and we are handling it as a ritual killing,” Onyango stated.
