A new chapter in Uganda’s political landscape began today as former Leader of the Opposition Hon. Mathias Mpuuga officially launched the Democratic Front (DF), a rebranded political party now fully registered and recognized by the Electoral Commission.
The launch event, held in Kampala, follows the Electoral Commission’s formal approval of the party’s name change from the Green Partisan Party to the Democratic Front, as documented in a Certificate of Registration dated May 6, 2025. The certificate was issued under Section 6(1) of the Political Parties and Organizations Act (Cap 178), confirming the party’s full compliance with Uganda’s legal framework governing political organizations.

Speaking at the launch, Mpuuga described the Democratic Front as “a home for logical thinkers, progressive minds, and those who believe in political ethics and disciplined service delivery.” His remarks echoed the party’s commitment to principled leadership and reform-driven politics.
The event was attended by several Members of Parliament who have thrown their weight behind the new political force, including Abed Bwanika, Michael Kakembo, and Juliet Nakabuye—all of whom were previously affiliated with the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Mpuuga, formerly the NUP Deputy President for the Central Region, emphasized that the Democratic Front is not merely a reaction to political divisions but a deliberate step towards building an inclusive, ethical, and forward-looking political movement.
With the 2026 general elections on the horizon, the Democratic Front’s entry into Uganda’s political arena is poised to reshape alliances and voter expectations, particularly in the central region where Mpuuga retains considerable influence.
As Uganda’s political dynamics continue to evolve, the Democratic Front positions itself as a serious contender for hearts, minds, and parliamentary seats—offering an alternative to the current opposition and a challenge to the ruling party’s long-standing dominance.
