The duo allegedly broke into Bosco Ocaya Okidi’s home in Ginnery West Cell in the early hours of Saturday, stealing chickens, a radio, shoes, and a bag. According to IP Joe Oloya, the Aswa East Regional Police PRO, the suspects were caught red-handed. Komakech attempted to flee but was caught by residents responding to Ocaya’s alarm and fatally beaten. His body was taken to the hospital mortuary.

Gung remains hospitalized in critical condition.

This marks the fifth mob-related killing in East Acholi this year. Mob justice remains widespread in Uganda, often fueled by public frustration over the slow justice system.

According to the 2023 Uganda Police Annual Crime Report, 1,039 people died from assault, accounting for 26.8% of all homicides. In total, 4,248 murders were reported last year, averaging 11 per day.
