Kuhonda was reportedly supporting incumbent flag bearer Enock Nyongore at the time of the incident.

The incident, occurring amid an already emotionally charged primary election, highlights the underlying tension and high expectations surrounding intra-party contests in Uganda’s rural areas. The sudden death sparked concern among local residents, with some questioning whether appropriate medical support was available at the polling station.

While the exact cause of Kuhonda’s death remains unknown, investigations are ongoing, and a postmortem has been ordered. Authorities have not confirmed whether he had any underlying health conditions or if the stress of the electoral process may have played a role.

This unfortunate event underscores the critical need for adequate emergency response mechanisms during elections. Officials have since urged calm among the public and called on political parties to prioritize the safety and well-being of voters in future electoral exercises.
