Police in Kisoro District have detained a man accused of killing his 18-year-old wife after a domestic altercation reportedly triggered by a disagreement over preparing supper.
The suspect, Brian Irakiza, a resident of Gikoro Village in Chihe Parish, Nyakinama Sub-county, is said to have violently attacked his wife, Denise Ntezimana, on Thursday evening after she refused to cook a meal.

John Nzabanita, the Gikoro LC I chairperson, said the couple had been married for only a month and that the altercation escalated after Ntezimana’s refusal to comply with Irakiza’s demand. He called the incident senseless and urged couples to handle disputes through peaceful means or community mediation.
Kigezi Region police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed Irakiza’s arrest, noting that he is being held at Kisoro Police Station as investigations continue. Maate described the conflict as a minor domestic issue that tragically escalated into a fatal incident.
