Kampala deputy mayor’s brother shot dead in Ntinda robbery

Tragedy struck Kampala on Thursday evening when Albert Cook Tugume, brother to Kampala Deputy Mayor Doreen Nyanjura, was shot dead in a violent robbery on Ntinda-Kigowa Road. Tugume, who operated a mobile money kiosk in the area, fell victim to what police have termed an aggravated robbery.

Eyewitnesses report that the assailants, armed and aggressive, held Tugume at gunpoint before opening fire. A second individual was also injured during the attack, but their identity and current condition have not yet been disclosed.

Doreen Nyanjura broke the heartbreaking news on X (formerly Twitter), posting:
“My brother Tugume Albert Cook has been abducted at gunpoint from Central Road, Ntinda-Kigowa Road. One person has been shot dead. He operates a mobile money shop.”

Police from Kira Road station promptly responded to the crime scene. Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson acknowledged the incident, confirming an ongoing investigation to uncover the motive and identify the suspects behind this heinous act.

This shocking crime underscores the growing concerns about safety and the vulnerability of mobile money operators to targeted attacks. The police have urged anyone with information to come forward as the investigation intensifies.
