A brazen murder happened in Lira. Police are currently investigating the incident where unidentified gunmen riding on a motorcycle shot and killed the proprietor of a popular pork joint in Boroboro, along the Lira-Soroti highway, on Monday night.
The 28-year-old resident of Barlwala Cell, Angwetangwet Ward in Lira City East Division, Hellen Akello, was killed in the shooting, which also left two patrons at the popular ‘Container Pork Joint’ located at Corner Boroboro, nursing bullet wounds.

The survivors have since been identified as Ms. Vivian Ayuru and Ms. Marcy Auma.
It is reported that the gunmen stormed the eatery at around 11:30 PM and opened fire on three people, but Ms. Akello died on the way as she was being rushed for treatment to Lira Regional Referral Hospital, which is located about 7 km away from the shooting scene.
They later fled the scene on a motorcycle, heading towards Lira City.
SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga region police spokesman, confirmed the events, saying, “It is true; a suspected murder by shooting is being investigated by the territorial police in Lira City East Division,” he said on Tuesday afternoon.
He added that detectives led by the DPC Lira-City East Division visited the scene for documentation and evidence gathering.
Mr. Okema called on the public to work with them in the investigation. “The investigation is ongoing, but no suspects have been named yet. No arrests have been made, but efforts to have the suspects apprehended are ongoing. We appeal to anyone who has any information regarding this incident to quietly share with the police to support the investigation.”
