Woman Sentenced to 20 Years for Cutting off Husband’s Genitals

A 35-year-old woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for attempted murder after being convicted of mutilating her husband’s genitals, the Kamuli Chief Magistrate’s Court has ruled.

Kevina Nabirye, a mother of four, attacked her husband, Mathias Bwamiki, accusing him of infidelity and poor performance in bed. The incident occurred on February 18, 2025, around 11 p.m. at their home in Buguwa village, Kamuli District.

Delivering his ruling on Wednesday, February 26, after visiting the injured Bwamiki at Kamuli General Hospital, Chief Magistrate Paul Owino stated that Nabirye pleaded guilty to the charges before her conviction.

“After visiting the victim in the hospital and considering your own plea of guilt, this court sentences you to 20 years in prison as a deterrent measure to reform your character, uphold the sanctity of life, and warn potential offenders. If you find the sentence harsh, you have the right to appeal within 14 days,” the magistrate ruled.

Bwamiki, who remains in severe pain, denied reports that he had forgiven his wife and urged the court to impose a strict sentence.

“Our children are traumatized by their mother’s actions and are too scared to live with her or her relatives. We will care for them, counsel them, and provide for them, but I ask the court to impose a harsh sentence—perhaps even keep her in prison until she is too old,” Bwamiki said.
