Four applicants have been arrested in Kakumiro District after allegedly presenting forged academic documents during the ongoing Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) recruitment exercise.
The arrests, made on Wednesday, followed a verification process of documents submitted by shortlisted candidates. Officials say the suspects—whose names have not been released to avoid compromising investigations—were among 50 applicants selected for final screening.

According to the UPDF, the group presented fake Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) slips, forged Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) certificates, falsified Senior Four testimonials, and counterfeit national identity cards.
Captain Wilson Kato Agaba, the public information officer for UPDF Recruitment Team 5 in the Bunyoro Region, warned against attempts to deceive recruitment officers. “We have a professional and dedicated screening team that can easily detect forged academic documents,” he said.
The suspects are now in police custody and face prosecution. Agaba added that of the 504 people targeted for recruitment from the Bunyoro sub-region, only 366 qualified.
The incident comes just a week after a similar case in Kagadi District, where 13 people—11 men and two women—were arrested for presenting forged documents, including fake PLE slips, forged UCE certificates, falsified testimonials, and counterfeit IDs, during the same recruitment exercise.
