Elgon Region police spokesperson Rogers Taitika said the incident was reported to Lwakhakha Police Station by the school’s security guard, Charlise Wairwa.

Firefighters from Mbale, local police officers, and community members collaborated to extinguish the fire. Preliminary findings point to an illegal electricity connection as the likely cause, with sparks believed to have come from wires illegally tapped from a nearby power pole. Taitika added that the dormitory’s closure at the time helped avert any harm to the students.
