False Claim of COVID-19 Outbreak in Wakiso Circulates on TikTok

A TikTok video falsely claims that 19 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Wakiso District in 2025, causing alarm among social media users. The video features dramatic visuals and suggests a serious resurgence of the virus.

However, fact-checking by the Dismiss Fake News desk has confirmed the video is not recent. Analysis reveals it uses language and imagery typical of the early stages of the pandemic and lacks any credible timestamps or references to current data.

The Ministry of Health has also dismissed the video, confirming that there is no ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in Wakiso or any other part of Uganda. In an official statement, the ministry called the video outdated and misleading, urging the public to ignore it.

The video contains no recent statistics or reliable sources and appears to reuse old footage from earlier phases of the pandemic.

As of June 2025, the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO), and Wakiso district health officials have issued no alerts or reports indicating a rise in COVID-19 cases. National health data confirms that transmission levels remain low.

Spreading misinformation like this creates unnecessary fear and erodes public trust. The public is encouraged to fact-check health-related claims before sharing them.

Verdict: False—the claim of 19 new COVID-19 cases in Wakiso is not true. The video is outdated and misleading.
