Two individuals, including a senior official from a Christian organisation and a government employee, have appeared in court in Uganda on forgery charges related to contested bank documents used to open accounts for a faith-based investment company.
Brenda Namutebi Kwizerwa, Chief Operations Officer at World Trumpet Mission Uganda, and Eddie Muhangi, a registration officer at the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), were formally charged at Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday. Both pleaded not guilty.

The case centres on a board resolution allegedly forged in January 2024 to enable the opening of Ugandan shilling and U.S. dollar accounts in the name “GONATIONS” for John Mulinde Global Investments SMC Limited at ABSA Bank.
According to State Prosecutor William Ntumwa from the Inspectorate of Government (IGG), Namutebi is accused of unlawfully signing the document on 25 January 2024 in the name of Agustine Tamale, presenting it as a legitimate company resolution. She is charged under Sections 319, 322, and 324 of Uganda’s Penal Code Act.
Muhangi is accused of facilitating the use of the forged resolution in his capacity as a registration officer at URSB. The prosecution alleges that his actions helped mislead the bank into accepting the documents.
Both defendants remained composed in the courtroom as Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi read the charges and confirmed they understood them. Defence lawyers Jacob Rubeyizi and Robert Muheza told the court they had just received instructions and had submitted documents for a bail application through the court’s online system.
“We pray for a short adjournment to enable us to prepare a bail application,” Rubeyizi told the court.
The magistrate remanded both Namutebi and Muhangi to Luzira Prison until 11 August 2025 to allow time for further investigations and to consider the bail application.
Neither World Trumpet Mission Uganda nor the URSB issued immediate statements on the case. Investigations are ongoing.
