Church Collapse in Namisindwa Injures More Than Ten Worshippers

More than ten women were injured when a church building collapsed during a Sunday service in Namisindwa district, eastern Uganda.

The accident happened at the Spiritual Born Again Church in Namutokholo II village, Bukokho sub-county. Local leader John Wafula, the LCIII chairperson of the area, said the structure gave way unexpectedly in the afternoon, leaving congregants trapped under the rubble.

Residents rushed to help pull survivors from the debris. Mr Wafula blamed Pastor Moses Namukowa Nakhwashe for holding services in a visibly unsafe structure, accusing him of endangering worshippers’ lives.

Pastor Nakhwashe, however, attributed the collapse to what he called “divine intervention”, saying the incident was a sign that the congregation had placed too much dependence on God’s protection.

All those injured in the collapse were women, many suffering fractures and other serious injuries. They were taken to Magale Health Centre III, Bumbo Health Centre III, and Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
