Police in Mpigi District have arrested a traditional healer accused of exploiting and allegedly sexually abusing some of his female clients following complaints from residents that prompted a raid on his shrine.
The suspect, identified as Yusufu Kaweesi, also known as Jjaja Isabirye, was arrested on Thursday during an operation at Kitavujja Cell in Ward C, Mpigi Town Council.
The raid was conducted by officers from Mpigi Central Police Station led by operations commander Bumaali Lugona, alongside the Mpigi Town Council supervisor of traditional healers, Nalongo Nambi Nakasujja.

Authorities said the operation followed reports from community members concerning the healer’s conduct.
Speaking during the raid, Nakasujja said complaints from residents had triggered the joint operation involving police and local leaders.
Following the search, Kaweesi’s shrine was closed in the presence of law enforcement officers and community members as investigations continue.
Police recovered several items from the premises, including a machete, a dagger, documents believed to contain information about deceased persons, a hair dryer and other exhibits.
Lugona said the recovered items had been secured to support ongoing investigations into the allegations.
One woman, who asked not to be named, said she narrowly escaped abuse after visiting the shrine seeking assistance with a dispute involving her landlord.
“I had gone there looking for help because my landlord was putting me under pressure over rent fees. What happened there left me frightened,” she said.
Kaweesi denied any wrongdoing and dismissed the accusations against him.
“These accusations are part of a scheme to tarnish my name and destroy my reputation,” he said.
Nakasujja said closing the shrine was necessary to prevent any further alleged incidents while inquiries are underway.
Police have appealed to members of the public with relevant information to cooperate with investigators.
The suspect remains in custody at Mpigi Central Police Station pending further investigations.
