Uganda Police Foil UGX 50 Million Robbery at Kyotera Coffee Factory

Uganda police say they have thwarted a robbery in Kyotera District in which armed assailants stole UGX 50 million from a coffee factory manager in broad daylight.

The incident occurred at Kifuta Village in Kabira Sub-county, where five armed men on motorcycles attacked 40-year-old Andrew Kagwa, the manager of Mazima Bugaga Coffee Factory.

According to police, the suspects fled the scene with the cash after assaulting Kagwa. A report was later filed by the victim under case reference CRB 560/2025 at Kyotera Police Station.

Upon receiving the alert, the Kyotera District Police Commander mobilized a response team that immediately launched a pursuit. The gang is believed to have headed toward Masaka via Kyesiga.

Regional police units led by the regional police commander, the regional CID commander, and crime intelligence officers also joined the operation.

The suspects were intercepted at Kizigo Village, where an exchange of gunfire ensued. One of the suspects, identified as Lawrence Ssenyumu, was shot dead, while the remaining four reportedly fled with injuries.

Police recovered two firearms and a motorcycle bearing registration number UFV 988N at the scene. Investigators are working to trace the ownership of the motorcycle and identify the remaining suspects, with support from the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA).

Authorities have also begun reviewing CCTV footage from the factory and submitted the recovered weapons for forensic analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

The police have vowed to continue tracking the remaining fugitives and bring them to justice.
