In the Madi Okollo District, security forces successfully carried out the peaceful evacuation of 100 cattle belonging to a Balaalo herder on July 20, 2025, officially launching evictions under Operation Harmony—a presidential directive to remove non-compliant pastoralists from the West Nile and North West Nile regions.

The operation, led by the District Security Committee, was conducted smoothly and without resistance. According to Superintendent of Police Collins Asea, public relations officer for the West Nile Region, the cattle were voluntarily transported to Hoima District, and the herder’s cooperation was commended.
Local authorities and community leaders also played a significant role in maintaining calm during the exercise. The herder, who had been grazing cattle in Okollo Town Council, complied without incident, and his actions were cited as a model for others.
Authorities are urging remaining Balaalo herders in the region to cooperate peacefully with the ongoing evictions. SP Asea emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining peace during the process and called on all stakeholders to support the initiative.
The operation comes amid growing tensions over land use in West Nile, where conflicts between herders and farmers have escalated in recent months. Operation Harmony is part of broader efforts to resolve these disputes and restore order, with additional evictions planned in the coming days.
