Following the July 17 NRM primary elections in Ndorwa County West, State Minister for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives David Bahati has declared that the contest is far from settled. The official results, announced by Kabale District NRM Registrar Babra Ainebyona, showed Counsel Eliab Naturinda Mporera in the lead with 25,027 votes (50.9%), followed closely by Bahati with 23,759 votes (48.3%). A third candidate, Mwesigwa Edward, trailed with 416 votes. Bahati has since raised serious concerns over the integrity of the process, particularly in Kamuganguzi sub-county, where he alleges that the number of ballots exceeded registered voters in at least seven polling stations.

In a press briefing on Friday, Bahati described the primaries as marred by irregularities, voter intimidation, and procedural flaws. While reviewing his next steps, he reassured supporters that all concerns are being addressed, and he emphasized patience, unity, and service over personal political ambition.

Having served as NRM chairperson for Kabale District and as a key political figure in the region for two decades, Bahati’s call for calm and focus on democratic values resonated with many supporters. His response highlights ongoing challenges within the party’s internal elections, underscoring broader issues of transparency, fairness, and political maturity in Uganda’s ruling party.
