During the arrests, security personnel recovered an AK-47 rifle with a magazine, one live round of ammunition, and police-issued attire, including a pair of khaki trousers and boots, from the suspects’ residences.
According to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, the suspects have admitted to participating in at least four recent armed robberies across Mugombero Town Centre, Natate, and Mutorole. They are currently detained at Kisoro Police Station as investigations and search operations for additional accomplices continue.
The arrests follow a string of violent incidents, including a June 16 robbery in which two victims—a petrol station manager and a shop owner—were held at gunpoint and robbed. In another incident earlier this month, masked assailants targeted a trading center in Nyakinama Sub-county, stealing over Shs 3.3 million from multiple business owners.
In response to rising insecurity, police have committed to intensifying patrols and maintaining heightened surveillance in the affected areas to curb further criminal activity.
