Pastor’s son kills Wife in Kamuli

In Kamuli, police are hunting for Alex Bukusuba, 40, who is accused of fatally attacking his wife, Mukoda Masitula, 24, in a domestic violence incident, that took place on Friday in Bakusekamajja zone, Butansi sub-county, in Kamuli District.

Muzamiru Talitwala, cousin to the deceased, said the couple had been struggling with marital issues for months.

“They had issues of domestic violence, and their marriage was full of upheavals since August last year,” Talitwala said.
“We intervened several times but couldn’t find a solution,” he conceded.

Talitwala believes the murder occurred early in the morning, when Masitula was attempting to retrieve her belongings, saying, The blood stains found in the area suggest she was killed during that attempt.”

Jessica Nankwanga, the victim’s mother, tearfully recalled a phone call from Bukusuba hours before the attack. “She had gone back to pick some belongings, but while still there, the suspect called me, warning that he would do something bad to my daughter,” Nankwanga narrated.

Nankwanga said she tried to intervene during the heated call, urging her son-in-law to let her daughter leave, but Bukusuba refused.

Only to later receive the heartbreaking news that Masitula had been killed by her husband.

The couple had only been married in August of the previous year, following Bukusuba’s divorce.

Pastor Robert Bukusuba, the suspect’s father and the lead pastor of Nakanyonyi Healing Tabernacle Church, expressed regret over his son’s troubled past since dropping out of school in P5 over two decades ago.

“I regret that my son has had behavioral issues since childhood. It’s sad that an innocent life was lost in such a tragic way,” he mourned.

Busoga North Police spokesperson, Michael Kasadha, confirmed the incident and strongly condemned the murder.

He urged couples to seek professional advice or legal solutions rather than resorting to violence. “Couples should resolve conflicts peacefully, seeking help from churches, courts, or family protection services, rather than violence,” Kasadha said.

He also noted a worrying increase in physical violence cases in the region. “Physical violence cases are on the rise and are more common than economic violence,” Kasadha added.

Kasadha confirmed that once Bukusuba is apprehended, he will face murder charges in court.

Following the murder, a mob of residents in Butansi Sub-county set fire to the house where the crime occurred and destroyed surrounding banana plantations.
