UNAA’s Muvawala Found Abandoned in Buliisa Following Abduction

Charles Bukenya Muvawala, Vice President of the Uganda North American Association (UNAA), was found in Buliisa District after being abducted on Wednesday. He went missing outside a nightclub, leading to suspicions that state agents were behind the abduction due to his political views.

Muvawala was discovered on Friday in a swamp, showing clear signs of torture. National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi confirmed he spoke with Muvawala, who shared details of his ordeal.

“I’ve just spoken to our comrade, Charles Muvawala, who was abducted after 1 am on Wednesday and had been missing since. He said his captors dumped him in a swamp in Buliisa District today after hours of torture. He is deeply shaken by the experience. We must all unite in fighting against the lawlessness that has become characteristic of our country!” Kyagulanyi stated.

Photos circulating on social media show Muvawala looking frail, with visible signs of torture. The exact circumstances of his abduction and release remain unclear, but the incident has prompted widespread outrage.

Muvawala was abducted in Nakulabye, Kampala, marking the latest in a series of forced disappearances in Uganda. Human rights organizations and opposition figures have consistently raised alarms about such incidents and called for accountability from the government.

The abduction sparked condemnation from both NUP supporters and UNAA members. In an interview with NBS TV, UPDF spokesperson Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye denied the military’s involvement, suggesting the abduction could be linked to difficulties faced by immigrants in the U.S. under former President Donald Trump’s policies.

Supporters and well-wishers have rallied behind Muvawala, demanding justice and accountability for the incident.
