Mawokota North Member of Parliament Hillary Innocent Kiyaga—popularly known as Dr. Hilderman—has said he will not seek re-election if the National Unity Platform (NUP) denies him the party ticket, despite his strong desire to retain his seat.
During an interview on Sanyuka TV, Dr. Hilderman—who is reportedly at odds with the party leadership after backing former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga in the controversial Shs500 million ‘Service Award’ saga—stressed that NUP is more than just a political party to him.
“If I don’t receive the NUP flag, I won’t run. But I will remain a committed party member and serve with dedication,” he said.
He emphasized his loyalty to NUP’s vision and mission, noting, “This is a generational cause. I believe in the movement’s purpose, and I’m here to help build it—ticket or not.”
Addressing his relationship with NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, Hilderman said they’re still aligned in their broader political mission but expressed concern that some individuals around Kyagulanyi are misinforming him to damage others’ reputations.
“I have no personal issues with him,” Hilderman added. “We’re still united in the struggle for change in Uganda.”
