Watoto Church Dismisses Pastor Over Sexual Misconduct Allegations

One of Uganda’s largest evangelical congregations, Watoto Church, has announced the dismissal of a pastor following allegations of sexual misconduct.

The decision was communicated on Sunday, 10 August, through a video message shown during services at all church branches. Church leaders said they hold their ministers to high moral standards and expect them to be examples of integrity.

Describing the development as “unfortunate” and “a sad moment for the church,” Watoto’s team leader, Pastor Julius Rwotlonyo, said the incident was at odds with the institution’s values. He reaffirmed the church’s commitment to “walking in righteousness” and ensuring leaders remain accountable to biblical teaching.

No further details about the alleged misconduct were given, and the church has not released the pastor’s name.

Founded in 1984 as Kampala Pentecostal Church (KPC), Watoto has since grown into a nationwide ministry with multiple campuses. Alongside its worship services, the church is widely known for its community and humanitarian work, particularly through Watoto Child Care Ministries.

Watoto maintains a zero-tolerance approach to moral failings among its leaders, with sexual misconduct considered grounds for immediate removal. The church has repeatedly emphasised that ministry leadership is both a privilege and a moral responsibility, requiring integrity, accountability, and a life beyond reproach.
