Mr Emmy Lorika, the Bukedea District police commander, disclosed that Augustine Ocom, a resident of Kobaale village, Kobaale parish, Kangole Sub County, was detained after a police sniffer dog led detectives to his home following the murder of Joseph Opolot, a resident of the same village.

“We received information from the local council chairperson about the incident. The scene of crime officers together with the police sniffer dog visited the scene and managed to arrest one suspect who’s in our cells. The police sniffer dog led us to his home, and we arrested him in order to help us with investigations,” Mr. Lorika observed.
Opolot’s widow, Ms. Catherine Imalingat, narrated how her husband was allegedly killed.
“We were sleeping when two people kicked our door open. When I tried to wake my husband up, one of the assailants placed a knife on my throat and told me not to make an alarm as the other tied my husband. I heard my husband saying, ‘Ocom, you have decided to kill me!’. They then started asking for money and a motorcycle logbook,” Ms. Imalingat said.
Kobaale LCI chairperson, Mr. Constantine Okasio, noted that the soldier and another assailant who is said to be on the run used a knife to kill his brother.
“It’s shocking news in my village to hear such a thing happening for the first time. Police searched the house of the deceased and found the blood-stained knife, which is believed to be the murder weapon,” Mr. Okasio said.
Opolot’s body was taken to Bukedea Health Center IV mortuary for postmortem.
