Three officials of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) Electoral Commission—Jack Kabuusu, Magere Emmanuel, and Aisha Naomi Natukunda—have been dismissed by party president Jimmy Akena for allegedly overstepping their mandate and disrupting internal election procedures.
Their actions, which included making unauthorized statements about the party’s presidential candidate and directly engaging the national Electoral Commission, were deemed insubordinate and contrary to UPC’s constitutional framework.

Akena emphasized that the party’s Electoral Commission has no jurisdiction over presidential matters and must adhere to established communication channels. The expulsions come just days before UPC’s delegate conference, where the 2026 presidential flagbearer is to be selected. Akena, who is seeking the nomination, maintained the process is open to all contenders and denied interfering with internal structures, attributing recent tensions to misinformation and procedural breaches.
The firings highlight growing internal friction within UPC as it prepares for the 2026 elections, raising broader concerns about cohesion and discipline in the party’s leadership.
