The Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC) has assured the public that HIV/AIDS services will continue uninterrupted despite recent reductions in U.S. support. UAC Director General Dr. Nelson Musoba said the government has mobilized domestic resources to cover shortages in key supplies like antiretroviral drugs and lab equipment.

Speaking during the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, Musoba confirmed collaboration with the Health and Finance ministries to address the funding gap. He dismissed concerns of ARV shortages, attributing any delays to late requisitions by health facilities.
Uganda, with 1.49 million people living with HIV and a 5.1% prevalence rate, saw 38,000 new infections and 20,000 AIDS-related deaths in 2023—mostly among youth aged 15–24. UAC has requested Shs300 billion from Parliament to support HIV response efforts.
UNAIDS Uganda Director Jacqueline Makokha acknowledged Uganda’s progress toward ending AIDS by 2030 but urged sustained global and local support to safeguard hard-won gains.
